UK Foreign Policy in a shifting world order

One of the missions of the BFPG is to provide easy access to relevant UK foreign policy information. As well as publishing our own independent work, we provide a hub of the latest UK foreign policy related publications.

This publication by the House of Lords Select Committee on International Relations examines the UK’s place in the world in the evolving international system. The paper covers the following core themes:

  • Disruption and change to the global balance of power
  • The transformative nature of new technologies
  • Multilateralism and the rules-based international order
  • UK foreign policy – future capabilities

Through covering these themes, the UK’s international position is evaluated against Russia, China, and the U.S. The proliferation of digital technologies is examined along with the rising power of technology companies. The challenges facing key global institutions such as the UN, NATO and the WTO are also explored and the Whitehall structure, new technologies and the National Security Council are also assessed in light of the future capabilities of the UK’s foreign policy
