19 Feb Global Britain in the United Nations
One of the missions of the BFPG is to provide easy access to relevant UK foreign policy information. As well as publishing our own independent work, we provide a hub of the latest UK foreign policy related publications.
This report, written by three UK academics, looks at the implications of Brexit on the UK’s standing in the UN. It considers the UK’s role as a Permanent member of the Security Council and the British public’s understanding of the Government’s ‘Global Britain’ strategy.
The authors argue that Brexit is likely to decrease the UK’s international influence and the report makes several recommendations to mitigate these risks. For example; the UK should resolutely maintain their commitment to the 0.7% aid target and address gaps in diplomatic capacity.
