Don’t cheer China on Covid-19 – Daily Telegraph

Director of the British Foreign Policy Group, Sophia Gaston, was quoted in Australia’s Daily Telegraph on the current Coronavirus pandemic. She argued that China is to blame for the outbreak, and should not be ‘lauded for its response’ to the global health pandemic.

On China, Sophia said: ‘Obviously they have been able to get this under control (allegedly) because of their authoritarian approach, but the reason we got into this crisis in the first place was because of those same measures.’

Sophia referenced the treatment of Dr Li Wenliang, the Doctor who was reprimanded by police for warning of the virus and threat to humanity before he died of it, arguing that this was just one sign of China’s failure.

The British Foreign Policy Group will continue to provide insights on the geopolitics of Covid-19, and how it is affecting global affairs.
