Sophia Gaston, Director of the British Foreign Policy Group, talks with Dr Joe Uscinski of the University of Miami, expert on conspiracy theories, about their role in the coronavirus pandemic. They discuss the ways in which America’s conspiracy landscape has been evolving in recent years, including since the election of Donald Trump, and what these conspiracy theories tell us about the social and political environment.
Dr Joe Uscinski is an Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Miami. He studies public opinion and mass media, with a focus on conspiracy theories, misinformation, and disinformation. He is the co-author of American Conspiracy Theories (Oxford, 2014) and editor of Conspiracy Theories and the People Who Believe Them (Oxford, 2018).
