Australia – The Lucky Country Again? Examining Australia’s Pandemic Response

Australia’s Response the Coronavirus Pandemic: In Conversation with Professor Mark Kenny of the Australian National University.

Sophia Gaston, Director of the British Foreign Policy Group, speaks to former political journalist Prof. Mark Kenny of the ANU about Australia’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. They discuss Australia’s structural advantages entering the crisis, the political context for the government’s response, and how Australia might be facing a coveted, but lonely, position due to its resilience.

Professor Mark Kenny came to the Australian National University after a high-profile journalistic career culminating in 6 years as chief political correspondent and national affairs editor of The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, and The Canberra Times. He is a fixture on the ABC’s Insiders program, Sky News Agenda, and is a sought after commentator on radio programs across the country. Mark is a director of the National Press Club. He was made a Visiting Fellow at ANU in 2018 and took up a full-time academic post at the Australian Studies Institute in January, 2019.
