26 Jun UK-India Week Roundtables
On Monday 24th June, the British Foreign Policy Group hosted two roundtables as part of UK-India Week, in partnership with India Inc.
The roundtables brought together perspectives from Conservative and Labour politicians, as well as British and Indian perspectives more widely, on a range of bilateral issues.
Speakers included:
- Barry Gardiner MP and Rajesh Agrawal, GLA, Chairing the roundtable on Labour perspectives
- The Rt. Hon Priti Patel MP and Lord Gadhia, Chairing the roundtable on Conservative perspectives
- Tom Cargill, Executive Director, British Foreign Policy Group
- Manoj Ladwa, India Inc
Discussion centred Foreign and Strategic Affairs, and the need for the UK to prioritise and develop a strategy for its relationship with India post-Brexit; Home Affairs, and why each nation should seek to raise national awareness of the importance of the UK-India partnership and the benefits it brings; and International Trade as it relates to the UK and India, particularly as the UK re-calibrates its place in the world.
Both roundtables were part of ‘India Day’, which marked the launch of UK-India Week (24th-28th June 2019), a day of broad discussion and valuable debate tackling issues vital to the future of the global partnership.
The Chairs and attendees enjoyed a lively and engaging discussion under Chatham House rule.
