Director of the British Foreign Policy Group, Sophia Gaston, spoke to City AM's Stefan Boscia on the City AM exclusive that the UK's next trade deal is set to be with Australia.
Sophia said: "There are certainly opportunities to increase the volume and ease of food and wine exports between Australia and the UK, including the reduction of tariff barriers."
She added: "The UK Government's recent commitment to free trade, however, has to be balanced with two key considerations. First, the concerns of British farming communities about being undercut by Australian farmers who are able to use production methods that would not be legal in the UK. And second, the distance between Australia and the UK presents challenges in terms of transport emissions, meaning that an increase in trade between our two nations could come at a cost to the environment."
